About the Architect
S. E. Deracy is a first-generation Haitian-American software engineer by day and a fantasy author by night. Fascinated by the architecture of complex systems, he applies that same rigorous logic to his writing, crafting hard magic systems where the cost of power is always strictly enforced.
The Author
The Elementless Magician draws on his Haitian heritage. The spells are written in Kreyòl, the language he grew up speaking with his family, and the Void is rooted in Haitian Vodou.
When not writing or coding, he is likely acting as Dungeon Master for a long-running D&D campaign or getting lost in JRPGs and other video games.

The Void magic in this series is rooted in Haitian Vodou. The spells are written in Kreyòl. Some of them carry the names of the Lwa.
I'm Haitian. My family is from Aux Cayes. The tradition this magic system grew out of is one I grew up around.
The Elementless Magician is the story of a world locked into one form of power and a boy who can reach what is underneath. That shape was already familiar to me. The tradition I come from has its own version of the same idea.
The world is fiction. What it grew out of is not.
